Course Overview

RIIHAN308F load and unload plant prepares workers to plan for, safely load, and safely unload plant equipment onto and off trailers or floats. It covers confirming trailer and float capacity, selecting and positioning loading aids, securing plant correctly for transport, and safely removing it at the destination.

This unit focuses on load and unload procedures rather than plant operation itself. Learners should already hold competency to operate the specific item of plant they intend to load and unload, gained through prior operator training or supervised experience.

Training is delivered on-site at your workplace wherever practical, so learners train with the plant and transport equipment relevant to their actual work environment.

Course Details

Certification

On successful completion, learners receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIHAN308F – Load and Unload Plant, issued by Paratus Training (RTO 45274).

This unit does not carry a separate government licence. It does not replace the operator competency required to run the plant itself — that remains a separate requirement.

This unit is nationally recognised. Full details, including the current version and any updates, are available on the national training register at training.gov.au.

Course Outline

This course covers:

  • Planning and preparing to load and unload plant, including documentation, hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Selecting and using required PPE
  • Confirming trailer or float capacity and suitability for the plant being transported
  • Selecting and positioning loading aids and ramps
  • Safely loading plant onto trailers or floats
  • Securing plant correctly for transport
  • Safely unloading plant at the destination
  • Removing securing devices and stowing loading aids
  • Identifying and reporting faults, and completing required documentation

Training combines theory with hands-on practical assessment.

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

There is no single packaged prerequisite unit required to enrol in RIIHAN308F. However, learners should already hold competency to operate the specific item of plant they intend to load and unload (for example, an existing statement of attainment, licence or ticket for that plant), since this course covers load and unload procedures rather than plant operation.

Additional entry requirements are:

  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Proof of identity (photo ID)
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to safely undertake the training and assessment
  • Physical capacity to safely carry out loading and unloading tasks and wear required PPE for the duration of training

Learners should arrive in appropriate work wear, including long pants, high-visibility shirt, and steel-cap boots.

Construction Training Fund (CTF)

If you work in WA’s building and construction industry, this course may be eligible for subsidised training support through the Construction Training Fund (CTF). Eligibility depends on the course and your employer’s CTF registration — ask us at enrolment to check.

Who needs this training?

New to industry

Plant operators who are new to transporting plant between sites and need formal competency in safe loading and unloading procedures. This unit gives new operators the structured process for planning, securing and moving plant safely.

Renewal due

Where an employer’s WHS management system calls for periodic skills refreshers, or where a worker’s currency on loading and unloading procedures needs updating, this unit can be repeated to confirm current competency. RIIHAN308F does not carry a fixed statutory expiry — refresh timing is set by employer policy or site requirements.

Team training

For civil, mining, and infrastructure crews who regularly move plant between sites as part of their operations. On-site group delivery lets Paratus Training train the whole team to a consistent standard, minimising downtime and keeping training relevant to the plant and transport equipment they actually use.
